Catherine “Cat” Lo

Catherine “Cat” is the Research Assistant for SeaDoc Society. Cat works on various research projects and takes on several tasks including boat driving, data processing and analysis, project coordination, and scientific writing. She also assists our partners at the San Juan County Marine Mammal Stranding Network with pinniped and cetacean necropsies and is a member of the Large Whale Disentanglement Response Team. Cat is also part of the SeaDoc dive team conducting scuba surveys around the San Juan Islands.

Cat comes with a strong background and a passion rooted in work that informs conservation management. Her volunteer and professional experiences have taken her to different parts of the world to study marine wildlife and conservation issues.

Cat received her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology at Oregon State University in 2016, a Master of Science in Marine Science and Oceanography at FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in 2019, and a certificate in Statistical Analysis at the University of Washington in 2022.

Cat was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and is currently based on Orcas Island. When she’s not in the office, you can find her hiking, paddleboarding, playing ultimate frisbee, and living out her tiny house dreams.
