We’re excited to sponsor the Ocean Life category of this year’s Share the View photo contest. It’s the 10th anniversary of the international nature photography contest, so they’ve doubled the prizes and will recognize the top 250 images!
Our friends who put on the Share the View are the ones who helped us with our Salish Sea in Focus contest a few years back. They have some top-notch judges and a rich history. All of the details you need, including our Ocean Life category and all others, can be found below. Good luck!
Share the View’s 10th anniversary photo contest opened for entries on Thursday, October 15, 2020, with three new non-profit beneficiaries, expanded prize money, and 10 optional new categories. The beneficiaries are African People and Wildlife (Tanzania), Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (Rocky Mountain Region, United States) and LightHawk (North America). The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers worldwide, 18 years and older.
The decade-long mission of Share the View (STV) is to promote the natural world, conservation and education through photography, and provide financial support to non-profit conservation organizations. The three beneficiary organizations will receive equal payments from the 10th anniversary contest entry fees.
Director, Wendy Shattil: Share the View is fun and challenging, but it also helps photographers see how their images measure up to others and can connect them to the nature photography community. By recognizing 250 images, we offer more than the usual chance to be featured in the top group.”
The entry period runs through December 1, 2020, with prizewinners and the top 250 photographs announced in January 2021. A $1000 grand prize and nineteen other cash awards will go to the top images selected by three world-renowned judges in a blind scoring system. A total of 250 images will be featured on the Share the View website and social media throughout 2021.
This year’s judges are prominent and experienced professionals respected in the field of nature and wildlife photography; they are Amy Gulick, George Lepp and Mark Muench.
With an eye toward encouraging the diverse subjects found in nature photography, sponsors and advocates for the 10 additional prizes work with Share the View to expand the scope and visibility of a broad group of nature and wildlife subjects.
The prize money and number of photo awards doubled this year to commemorate the 10th anniversary competition, thanks to the generous support of it’s sponsors. $250 cash prizes were donated in each of 10 bonus categories, along with links to advocacy groups that exemplify each subject. Categories and their associated sponsors and advocates (in parentheses) include:
Aerial views: Cloud Ridge Naturalists (LightHawk)
Ocean Life: The SeaDoc Society

“The contest gives back to non-profit groups actively working in conservation and education, with proceeds distributed to the three main organizations to aid in their efforts,” said Shattil. “Entrants can embrace the same vision and support the beneficiaries by supporting Share the View.”
