Donor Spotlight: Seattle Dive Tours

Seattle Dive Tours is a boutique scuba diving company providing dive tours, training, and travel across the Salish Sea and around the world.  They are a 100% Project Aware and Green Star Award PADI Dive Resort.  Seattle Dive Tours also built a distinctive PADI diving specialty ‘Salish Sea Diver’ featuring the Salish Sea books by the SeaDoc Society. We’re proud and honored that they reached out with a desire to support our work in the Salish Sea.

In addition to volunteering their time and energies, they also donate 1% of their gross revenues, as a member of 1% for the Planet, to environmental and local non-profit organizations chosen each year by SDT customers.

You can pick up a Seattle Dive Tours gift certificate or a copy of SeaDoc’s Explore the Salish Sea: A Nature Guide for Kids in their online shop!

What initially inspired you to support SeaDoc Society?

The amazing materials (books and videos) of the SeaDoc Society.  We were exposed to the Salish Sea books while diving at Hornby Island, Canada. We also love the Salish Sea Wild videos and share them via our social media.

What is your biggest concern about Salish Sea health?

Everything.  The decline of salmon and the health of related southern resident orcas are especially visible symptoms.

What are your favorite aspects of SeaDoc Society as an organization?

The educational output–reaching a broad spectrum with in depth science. Continuous marine research.

Why should others should consider supporting ocean health?

This is an ocean planet.  The health of the ocean is the health of our planet.  We have an opportunity every day to do things differently on a small and large scale.  It is up to each of us to act, to support others who act and to to elect representatives who will act.

What’s your favorite species in the Salish Sea?

For a Pacific Northwest historical and spiritual point of view – always the orca. For the buddy that you get to pal around with from time to time – juvenile harbor seals.
